Keeping Kids Active: Cut Your Own Christmas Tree

Make like the Griswolds and venture out to a local cut-your-own tree farm. It’s a great family activity and it isn’t as hard as you think.  Most tree farms provide all the tools you will need.  The hardest part is lying on the ground while you are cutting.  Brrr. And be sure to stay out of the way of the falling tree! Once the tree is down, you just pull it with a sled…muscle resistance exercise in its truest form! A couple of tips:  the trees look A LOT smaller than they really are.  Try standing next to the tree to get a sense of how tall it is and try wrapping your arms around the tree to get a better sense of how wide it is.  If you don’t want to cut the tree, you can still enjoy the experience.  Your family can hike around trying to find the kind of tree you like best and to get a sense of the size you want.  Then you can return to the warming house and purchase a previously cut tree that fits your preferences.  Have a funny story about cutting down your Christmas Tree? Or, do you have other great ideas for keeping kids active?  Share your thoughts in the comments below.
