Great Kids Places
-
It’s strongly believed that families who enjoy more time together are happier and healthier. That’s easier said than done when daily life includes sports, homework and housework. However, making the extra effort to partake in any activity together can be beneficial for everyone. Here are some great places for kids and ideas on how to keep your family together and active this summer.
Frisbee Golf
Frisbee golf courses are popping up in parks all over the country. It’s typically free to play the course unless entrance to the park requires an annual pass or daily fee. Take the family on a frisbee buying spree at a local sporting goods store where custom and specialty Frisbees are available.
Mini Golf
Even the smallest of putters can enjoy this mini version of the links.
Ladder Golf
Buy or build your own version of this popular yard game that pits two teams against one another in a quest to ring strings with golf balls at each end around a ladder-shaped tower.
Geocaching
Participants in this high-tech, outdoor treasure hunt use a Global Positioning System (GPS) to hide and seek containers called caches. If you don’t already have a GPS, you can buy a unit for about $100. Another option is to add the service to your mobile phone (about $5.99/month).
Beach
Pack a picnic lunch and head to the nearest swimming hole. Don’t forget the SPF.
Waterpark
Not a fan of sand? An indoor or outdoor waterpark is a great alternative location to take your family to cool off on a hot summer day.
Bowling
Bowling is a perfect rainy or hot day activity that can be enjoyed by nearly all ages. Bumpers make it easy for the tiny tots to participate, too.
Fishing
I’m willing to bait…I mean BET, you and your family will enjoy fishing off a dock or boat.
Amusement Park
Thrill-seeking families can enjoy a day of fun at their local amusement park. Not the most budget-friendly family activity option, but it’s definitely high on the fun factor rankings. Be frugal and check to see if the park has discounted evening admission. Rates are lower if you enter the park after dinner time and you will still have time for several rides and hours of entertainment before the park closes.
The benefits of spending a few hours of family time each week are immeasurable. It helps maintain a strong family bond while getting everyone more active and healthy.
