Son or daughter love playing catch or hitting the ball out of the park?  Here are a few things you should know before you embark on the search for baseball leagues and camps.

    • Most baseball leagues and camps offer options for kids age 4 or older.
    • If you are starting your child in baseball as a preschooler, we recommend looking for a league or camp that is focused on basic skill development rather than full-time team oriented play.  4 year olds should also be playing T-ball rather than coach pitch baseball.
    • Baseball Leagues typically offer Spring seasons with registration beginning as early as January.
    • Baseball Leagues establish teams based on age.
    • Many leagues are volunteer organizations and do not have complete registration and season information readily accessible on their web site.  Sign up for the league's newsletter to be sure you receive registration deadline and season information.
    • If you are looking to get your kids involved in baseball, but missed Spring sign ups, consider your local YMCA.  Many YMCA’s offer 8 week baseball leagues throughout the Spring and Summer for children ages 4-12.  You do not need to be a member of the YMCA to participate.
    • In addition to registration fees, you will incur expenses for baseball cleats and a baseball glove.  You may also purchase baseballs and a bat for practice at home.
