  • Description - Atlanta Budokan

Atlanta Budokan is a family-oriented facility, and as such offers an entire curriculum devoted to the education of children ages 4-12. Our program helps children develop both self-confidence and respect for others, while enjoying a physical activity that teaches them how to neutralize rather than promote aggression. Children's classes are arranged into three parts. The first 15 to 20 minutes are spent warming-up, stretching, and performing basic exercises to promote agility & physical fitness. The core of the class is spent developing full body movement, basic striking practice, defense techniques with a partner, and ground work. Class concludes with games designed to emphasize these principles. This structure allows the students ample time to learn while keeping them actively engaged and challenged. Partnered drills teach mutual respect. The give and take of working with a partner is a model for all of life's interactions. Children are taught to fall and roll safely, and how to move with fluidity and balance — skills that, in turn, enhance self-confidence. Techniques for children consist mostly of basic blocking and striking as well as simple avoidance, unbalancing and neutralizing methods. The joint locks associated with adult Aiki-Jujutsu are not used with young children.
