  • Description - Camp Wapiyapi

In 1998, a group of University of Colorado Medical students established Camp Wapiyapi to provide at no cost, a respite for children with cancer and their families. Each week-long camp session offered a safe and nurturing environment to allow the children and their siblings the natural freedoms of childhood. Through participation in a variety of group activities, campers learned that they did not face their challenges alone. In 2008, Wapiyapi expanded to include Family Retreats. These retreats offer families that have recently received a diagnosis an environment of understanding, comfort, and guidance to help them through this difficult time. All our activities at Camp Wapiyapi are designed to let the children have fun and feel like carefree kids again. More importantly, these activities are designed to help campers discover new things about themselves, boost their resolve, and give them a renewed sense of self-confidence. We understand and appreciate that all parents are concerned about their children's safety. So are we. Camp Wapiyapi is staffed by volunteer physicians and nurses who are available at all times for your child's general well-being and specific healthcare needs.
