  • Description - Powderhorn Racing Club

The Buddy Werner Program - a recreational racing program, the goal of which is to make participants better skiers. The focus of this program is on fun, skills, etiquette, safety, and an introduction to racing. However, the Buddy Werner Program is not a learn to ski program. Participants should be able to ski down one of the blue runs. The program runs on Sundays from early January through the end of February. Participants race for individual times, not in a head-to-head competition format. Each participant will have two runs on the racecourse on three Sundays. Races will be held on Wonderbump, starting just above the midway road. Racers will be required to wear their assigned racing bibs for each race (and every training day). Racers may inspect the racecourse, but they cannot ski the racecourse before their race. Each participant will be placed in a group of similar age and ability for their coached lesson. The lessons will vary from week to week with the emphasis on fun and improving skills and technique. Individual awards will be handed out at the end of the day on race days. Program is for children age 5 -14. USSA Program – Powderhorn Racing Club’s USSA Program is designed for the athlete who wants to pursue the most competitive racing program within the USSA Age Class and Ability Class systems. Our program is divided into two groups: the Age Class Program for athletes ages 8-14 and the Ability Program for athletes ages 15-19.

      Snowboarding vs. Skiing for Kids?

A good and particularly timely question being that the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi Russia are set to begin on February 6. Top athletes from around the world will compete for the gold in both sports and may inspire your child to give one or both a try if they haven’t already. Let’s look at a comparison of the two based on a couple of different aspects: ease and safety.   . . . more
