  • Description - Scarsdale Ballet Studio

The Scarsdale Ballet Studio, now in its 18th year in Westchester, is a haven for ballet lovers of all ages. The Studio offers professional quality instruction in ballet technique to all students, regardless of their aspirations, in a creative and supportive, yet disciplined environment. Though many SBS students pursue a career in dance, others study just for enjoyment.Under the direction of Diana White, master teacher and former soloist of the New York City Ballet, the Studio's international faculty is comprised of classically trained former professional dancers who share her passion and teaching experience. Together, they have crafted a syllabus which combines elements of the European, Russian, and American Schools. With a strong belief in the importance of good quality early training, the Studio gets young children "off on the right foot" in Creative Ballet classes incorporating the highly-regarded "Leap ムn Learn" syllabus for ages three through five. Traditional ballet technique is introduced at age six, and levels progress from A through E and on to Adult. Classes are also offered at the beginning level to pre-teens, teens and adults. Dancers may augment their training with Pointe, Variations, Partnering, Character, Classical Spanish, and Body Conditioning. In order to explore the full range of their artistic abilities, Level D and E students may participate in our new Choreography Workshop classes. The Conservatory Division is designed for serious young dancers aged 9 to 13 who wish to make dancing their primary after-school activity. It offers the challenges of a pre-professional dance program with daily classes in ballet technique, a summer intensive, and workshops with visiting master teachers. Conservatory II and E Level dancers are introduced to the Balanchine Style(R) and Balanchine Technique(R) by Ms. White and former New York City Ballet soloist, Jennifer Tinsley Williams. Dancers also study excerpts from the Balanchine repertory as a means to develop technique, musicality, and an appreciation of the works of the 20th Century master. The Scarsdale Ballet Studio considers performing experience a vital part of a dancer's education. All students from age 4 and up appear in the annual recital in June. The Spring Concert dance performance offers an additional opportunity for more committed dancers.
